Inauguration of "Raise-Up Covai"

India’s first Startup Incubation Centre focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals AIC RAISE has hosted the event “Raise-up Covai” that brought together the entire Start-up ecosystem of Coimbatore for healthy and fruitful interaction. With the Honourable IT Minister Mr Mano Thangaraj and the Honourable District collector Dr S G Sameeran.

 As a part of this prestigious event “Raiseup Covai”, a discussion forum was held with the motive of transforming Coimbatore into one of the global hubs in the IT space.

The personal interaction between the Honourable Minister, District Collector and startup and incubator opened discussions on various topics meant for developing the IT sector. This was followed by a panel discussion between the Honourable Minister and CEO of IT companies and entrepreneurs of Coimbatore  on the topic “Gap between Coimbatore Startup Ecosystem and being Silicon Valley of India”.

Esteemed dignitaries who participated in the event opened up the conversation on diversified topics which focused on improving the startup ecosystem in India.

This elite panel had delegates from the tech giants like Robert Bosh and to the most happening Start-Ups of the Eco-System like BuyoFuel. This panel has discussed about transforming the Start-Up ecosystem of Covai into the Silicon Valley of India and making Tamil Nadu a land of opportunities for innovative start-ups.

Following the panel discussion, the Honourable Minister of Information Technology (Govt. of Tamil Nadu) launched the “Startup Kovai” initiative, which would act as a community bridging all stakeholders in the startup system.

Also, there were few other initiatives launched by the Honourable Minister. It includes a new course, i.e. MBA in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Venture Development, This course would help youngsters to learn entrepreneurship and venture development while pursuing the MBA course. Under the presence of the Honourable Minister, Institutions like Sir Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, and Nirmala College for Women were officially onboarded for the IEDC program that will generate more student entrepreneurs.

AIC IEDC (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell) program focuses on igniting innovation and entrepreneurship spirit among students to build innovative products and solutions and to build global level startups from our Nation.

The Raiseup fellowship program was also officially launched by the Honourable Minister. This fellowship program is designed to identify and empower professionals who are looking forward to implementing United Nations Sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Selected applicants who pass through various scrutinizing stages will be provided with a fellowship of Rs 25000/. per month for 18 months. In addition to that, Rs 5 lakhs will be provided as a one-time payment during the fellowship if their proof of concept is selected and found to be a feasible model.

Following the launch of various impactful events, the event came to an end with the award distribution ceremony. Special awards were distributed to the best startups who created a strong and meaningful impact for the community in which we live.

 We believe that discussions and events like this kind would pave a solid path for developing the Coimbatore startup ecosystem and taking it to the next level.

The day for Coimbatore City to get transformed into Silicon Valley is not far.
